I was just finishing up a nice post about the Supreme court decision when Bubba (my 1-year old son, nicknamed by his big sister) turned off the computer. I'm not re-typing it. I'll sum it up by saying that I live in Columbus, Ohio, which per capita has one of the highest gay populations in the country. I have lots of gay friends. Lots and lots of gay friends and I'm still giddy.

I love you Bubba,
oh yes I do
I love you Bubba
and I'll be true
When you're not with me
I'm blue
Oh Bubba I love you.

I'm not gay, but according to my former place of residence I was still committing a crime. "I'm sorry, Your Honor, I didn't know. Will it help my case to say that D. never complained?"

Got this link from small hands.

Can I just say that I love Jewel? I heard some flack about her new sexy image and how it was such a departure from her "hippie" self, how she was selling out, etc. I think she looks great. I like this sexy look of hers. I think it's okay to reinvent yourself. I do it all the time. I pronounce my name differently. I wear my hair differently. I dress differently. I listen to different music. One day you see me and I will probably have my hair up in a french roll (where you pratically have to sleep sitting up in order to "keep it"), nails did and dressed to the nines. The next day I will have on a head wrap, cut offs and my fave purple tie dye t-shirt. My favorite musicians are Luther Vandross, Staind, Cree Summer and Take 6. Last week I read Alice Walker and a smut book with those Fabio type images on the cover. I had someone ask me if I wanted to be Erykah Badu or Vivica Fox. I just want to be me and that is not a cookie cutter image. I am a whole lot of things in one. Some days I'm a sexy vamp, others I'm a frazzled single mom. Why do I (or Jewel) have to be one or the other? Why do I have to deny Floetry to listen to the Dixie Chicks, can't I enjoy both without compromising either? Can't Jewel be sexy and playful and still smart enough to write poetry and meaningful songs? The more genuine sides a person has makes them more interesting to me. I have no time for people who are one-dimensional.

Best friend is such a generic term to describe how I feel towards Pudge, so inadequate. Soulmate is more like it. If it's possible to not love your soulmate in a romantic way. I hold his friendship higher than any other. He has never judged me. Never, not one time in our 20 year friendship has he spoken one judgemental word towards me. He has literally been a model friend. And now I'm waiting for the call that his wife has given birth to their first child and I couldn't be happier. If anyone deserves to meet the person of their dreams and live happily ever after it's him. If I could name the luckiest baby in the world, it would be the child about to enter this scary world to the best man I've ever known. I love you Pudgy Wudgy. Now and forever.

I'm addicted to planner's. I know that it's not normal, but I can't resist. I went to Target with some of my family yesterday and ended up buying another planner. Franklin Covey now has an affordable line of planners available at Target. Of course there aren't nearly as large of a selection, but it's Target, who can argue? I dropped less than $15 when I can easily spend $100 or more at the Franklin store. So despite the fact that I already have a DayTimer, 2 Franklin Covey's (2 different sizes of course) and a generic I brought at a thrift store, I brought another one. Why does a single mother of 2 small children need 5 organizers? She doesn't because she's not even all that organized, but it's like a bee to honey, I can't resist. I'm ready to sit down and start filling in my addresses and dream about the inserts I can get.

Oh and I just gave the DMV of Virginia $545. You just gotta love 'em, everything else is illegal.

What's On your "ten positive things about me" list Right Now?

I'm loyal, I am a good mommy, I'm a good sister and auntie, I'm generous, I love easily, I read, I write (nevermind this blog, it's where I store junk that may later spark a real writing), I'm a great lover, I rarely hold grudges, I work hard.

Friday Five
1. Is your hair naturally curly, wavy, or straight? Long or short?

Happy to be nappy.

2. How has your hair changed over your lifetime?
Please. Everything from pressed, relaxed, jerri curled, french rolled, roller set, wrapped, wigged and braided, which is my current fave.

3. How do your normally wear your hair?
Today it will be under a bandana, by Sunday it will be braided.

4. If you could change your hair this minute, what would it look like?
I really don't want to wait until Sunday

5. Ever had a hair disaster? What happened?
It was blond. Don't ask.

Apparently a Michigan woman was spotted by a trucker breastfeeding her 7 month old daughter while driving on the interstate in Ohio. I truly believe that breast is best. I couldn't nurse my daughter, but I did nurse my son, so YEA! to her for wanting to give her child the best start in life, but couldn't she pull over somewhere? The danger in unstrapping the child from the car seat while driving is hazard enough, but I remember when my son was 7 months old. Even though he was on the small side, sometimes he loved to kick his little legs while he was eating. What if this child's leg's got entangled in the steering wheel? She was on the interstate, so one can assume she was going at least 55, what if someone hit her? Even if she had slowed her speed, there is no question that that child would be through the windshield. I know what it's like to have your child screaming their head off while you're driving, I drove 10 hours with my son at 8 months, it was not always pretty, but he just screamed with my feeble attempts to soothe him with coos until I was able to safely nurse him in Home Depot's parking lot, or wherever. It's hard being a parent and I always try to rally on the side of the parent when the media attacks them, but it's hard when they don't use the common sense that God gave them.

Maybe that's why my relationships haven't worked out. I've dated mostly Spike types.

Your boyfriend is Giles.

Who is your Buffy boyfriend?

Sometimes I think that our dreams are just our imaginations at work without the judgemental bonds of society, other times I'm not so sure. Lately teeth have been heavy on my mind. I need to take my daughter to the dentist and I need to take better care of my own. I know I should brush after every meal, but I normally only brush once a day, and flossing is a too rare event. Well, the other night I dreamt that 4 of my teeth had fallen out. Just straight up fell out. I should make a side note that I don't remember my dreams. I can count on 1 hand the number of dreams I remember so far this year and probably have a finger or two left over. Anyway, the details of the dream are fuzzy, but for some reason I was waiting for my mother to take me to the dentist to get my mouth fixed. Mind you, my mother has been dead for almost 6 years and I haven't depended on her to do anything "motherly" like that for over 15 years. So I got the brilliant idea to put my teeth back in myself. I went into the bathroom and I'm running the water and guess what? The damn teeth went down the drain. This is all so wierd because my mother's birth anniversary is this month and the anniversary of her death is in July, and I have been obsessing about my family's dental hygiene lately. I've always had a huge fear of losing my teeth, so what's the meaning behind this dream? And why does my mind choose to let me remember this one now? Questions to ponder while I go brush my teeth.

1. "The Munsters" or "The Addams Family"?

The Addams Family definitely. I loved the TV show and the movies. Christina Ricci was perfect.

2. "The Sopranos" or the "Godfather" movies?
I swear I haven't been living under a rock, but I haven't seen either.

3. "The Jetsons" or "Lost in Space"?
I don't know if I could pick. I love them both. This is back in the day when TV was good!

4. "Superman" or "Batman" (either the TV shows or the movies)?
Superman movies were the bomb, but who can argue with Eartha Kitt as Catwoman on the Batman TV show?

5. "Sex & The City" or "Friends"?
I've never watched Sex & The City, but I wouldn't be a Friend either.

6. "The Wizard of Oz" or the "Harry Potter" movies?
Talk about mixing apples and oranges. I would go for The Wizard of Oz. I'm a big Harry Potter fan, but there's a certain quality in the older stuff that's missing nowadays.

7. "The Simpsons" or "King of the Hill"?
Hank Hill is just too funny.

8. "Grease" or "Saturday Night Fever"?
I know all the words to Grease, and not just the words to the songs.

9. Old prime-time soaps: "Dallas" or "Dynasty"?
I never really got into either. I did tune in to see who shot J.R. and my mom watched Dynasty so I saw more than a few episodes.

10. Not very thought-provoking this week...do you prefer TV shows or movies?
TV shows because I have a 1 year old who doesn't let me sit still long enough to follow a movie very often.

I can't believe the movie people didn't think they always use those 555 numbers for a reason. I know I'm telling my age, but remember dialing 867-5309 and asking for Jenny?

My daughter graduated from kindergarten today. All of the kids looked so cute up there on the stage. And so well-behaved. Not a lot of talking and playing around like I was expecting with a bunch of 6 year olds. One boy stood up there and cried his eyes out for the first half of the program, but he was a trooper. Whatever was wrong, he tried to sing and keep up the motions with the other kids. My kind of dude! My teacher had nothing but praises for my DayBoo. We were having problems with her behaviour, due in part to all the moving we've done in the past year I'm sure, but she has really come around. And she got an S in every subject, the highest grade she could get.

What's On your favorite magazine cover right Now?
The lovely Mrs Jada Pinckett Smith on the latest Essence. Though I would probably not tune into a show about her and Will's life (has anyone else heard those rumors?), I think she is one of the most beautiful women alive. She is absolutely gorgeous and I love the way she carries herself as a women, mother, wife, activist, Queen.
