I love Nikki Giovanni. No matter where I am in my life, I can always find a poem I can relate to.

Housekeeping

i always did like house cleaning
even as a child
i dug straightening
the cabinets
putting new paper on
the shelves
washing the refrigerator
inside out
and unfortunately this habit has
carried over and i find
i must remove you
from my life

I don't usually get upset over the deaths of famous folk. People think because they listen to and love their music or watch every movie they've ever made or whatever that they "know" this person. That ain't me. Iwas saddened by the loss of Luther Vandross among others, but I know people that cried that cry where you can't even speak. That ain't me. I am deeply touched by the death of Coretta Scott King. She is one of my heros. As a black woman the cause she fought for obviously has made a profound difference in my life, but on a more personal level. I am a newly single mother of 4, I just don't know how she did it in the public eye. It wasn't until I realized my underarms were humming that I remembered to take a shower I was so busy being mommy. I admired the strength, courage, dignity and loyalty she showed in her life. I would never belittle the role of Dr. King, but I truly believe that she deserves every honor because of who she was, not who she loved.

I am finally back online. It was rough not being able to even go to the library to surf the net. So a big thank you to D. I'm sorry I beat you up when we were kids. Speaking of kids, I had mine. No more for me. This store has gone out of business. I went out with a bang. He is a cutie. I may be a bit biased, but I don't think so.
